In your research, have you run across information on a tory named Steven Heard, an interim provisional Governor of Georgia during the revolution who was imprisoned in Augusta, Ga. during the Revolutionary War. He was able to escape before hanging and there are interesting stories in that regard. He was a Governor on horseback due to the loss of any permanent capital. I am looking for British Military books or journals that might confirm those stories. He was very involved in the Hornet's Nest and I feel sure came in contact with Thomas Browne and his forces. He fought alongside Elijah Clarke in the battle of Kettle Creek and in other areas. Isn't history more interesting than fiction? Any info you might have about our ancestor would be appreciated. Thank you for your consideration. Linda Heard.

I have only just seen your comment about the Browne and Porter families in St Vincent. Please email me (email address at top of my article above) as it would be very interesting to share information. Thanks.

My grandfather was John Browne and came to St. Vincent with a relative-in-law named Mr. Porter. His family was told that he was related to a Reverend Browne who was the Rector at the Anglican church in Georgetown. It would be nice to talk a little about this with Joan Leggett.

My great grandfather, Lewis Porter (a Scotsman), married Margaret Browne in Georgetown sometime in the mid 1800s. Her father was the Rev. Thomas A. (Alexander?)Browne, certainly part of the family cited.
