St. Vincent Sports Complex Facing Cricket World Cup Deadline
February 21, 2007 // 0 CommentsTwo weeks and counting. That’s how long workers in St. Vincent have to finish repairs to the Arnos Vale Sports Complex, in time for Cricket World Cup warm-up matches. Those matches are scheduled to take place between March 5 and 9.
The project has been running far behind schedule, and it’s feared the complex won’t be ready. When completed, Arnos Vale promises to be a world-class facility, but in its current condition, it’s in a race against the clock. A new double decker stand to hold 5,000 fans is still not finished, along with a four-tier media centre, and the playing surface is even in question.
Specator turn-out for test matches has been very poor, and teams have complained about a poor playing surface.
If the surfaces for the World Cup warm-up matches are similar, complaints are expected from teams representing Australia, England, Zimbabwe and Bermuda.
