Ernest Gladstone RICHARDSON was born in St. Vincent according to U. S. newspaper records from the Chronicle-Telegram of Elyria, Ohio for 24 February 1927 which states in its Today’s Birthdays column that “Bishop Ernest G. Richardson of the Methodist Episcopal Church”, had been born there 53 years ago today. His middle name is given as Gladstin in the records of Ellis Island for an arrival from Demerara to New York in 1906.

NATURALIZATION RECORD - USA
Ernest G. RICHARDSON’s naturalization record from the State of New York is dated 26 December 1895. He was living at 312 Clermont Ave. in Brooklyn, New York at the time. His occupation was listed as student. His birthdate is given as 24 February 1874. His date of arrival in the U. S. was 07 July 1890. His naturalization is recorded in Volume 5, Record #720.

Ernest G. RICHARDSON died September 5, 1947 according to the obituary of his successor Edwin Holt HUGHES. RICHARDSON was the Methodist church leader in Wisconsin at the time of his death. He died at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia of “virus pneumonia and a stroke”. He was age 73 and had the title of Bishop. RICHARDSON had been in the post for seven months following the death of Bishop Schuyler E. Garth, who died in a plane crash in China. RICHARDSON had been in Philadelphia before taking the Wisconsin appointment.

Funeral services were held September 8, 1947 in Philadelphia at the Arch Street Methodist Church. RICHARDSON had served in Puerto Rico, Atlanta, GA, Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey before his appointment to headquarters in Philadelphia. He was a Bishop in Atlanta.
