William KYDD, James KYDD and Lawrence KYDD left Bequia in 1901 on whale ships. William and Lawrence remained in New Bedford [Massachusetts] their entire lives; both returned to whaling.

William Sydney KYDD was born February 21, 1879 in the British West Indies. His middle name, birthdate, and birthplace are from his World War I Draft Registration Card. The card lists his address as #322 Ash Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts. His race is listed as Negro and he is listed as a Naturalized U. S. Citizen. His occupation is given as Janitor for B. H. Anthony on Market & Pleasant Street. His nearest living relative is Clara L. KYDD, also of #322 Ash Street, apparently his wife. He is listed as “tall”, of “medium” build, with brown eyes and black hair.

James KYDD -
James KYDD, his sister Jane KYDD and Nathaniel DEWAR traveled together, landing in New York on October 3, 1906 in transit to New Bedford, Mass. Nathaniel was going to visit his friend William KYDD (James’ brother) at 257 Front Street in Perth Amboy, NJ. James was single and 23 years old. He was a seaman. He stood 5′9 1/2″ tall and was a U.S. citizen. He bore a scar on his right wrist.

Henry B. KYDD -
Henry B. KYDD (had a twin named Walter who died young) traveled to NY from Barbados aboard the Vestris and arrived on May 15, 1922. He was already a naturalized citizen. He had no passport and had left the U.S. as a sailor. He was naturalized in the District Court at Camp Dix, NJ. File#946823 dated 14.6.1918

Ernest Ferdinand KYDD -
Ernest Ferdinand KYDD was born October 26, 1892 or 1893. His birthdate is found on his World War I Draft Registration Card with the 1893 date and on the Social Security Death Index with the 1892 date. Additional information from his draft Card lists his address as #322 Ash in New Bedford, Massachusetts, which is also the Draft Card address of William Sydney KYDD above. His birthplace is listed as Kingstown, St. Vincent, British West Indies. His occupation is Tack Worker for Atlas Tack Works, which is also the place of employment given for Lawrence Leopold KYDD above. Further information states he relies on his Father & Mother and that he is single and of African origin. His citizenship status is Alien. He is listed as “tall”, of “medium” build, with dark brown eyes and black hair.
Ernest KYDD is found on a passenger manifest upon entry to Ellis Island, NY on April 7, 1919. The ship was Mauritania, port of departure: Southampton, England. Ernest KYDD traveled in steerage class. He was aged 26 years and 5 months. His marital status was single. His occupation was Crane Driver. He was going to visit his brother L. (Lawrence) KYDD at 152 Paterson St. in Perth Amboy, NJ. His place of birth was Kingstown, BWI. His residence was given as New Jersey. His closest living relative or friend in the country of his origin was Mr. Samuel KYDD, of Derrick Hill, Bequia. His physical description:
HEIGHT: 5′10″
COMPLEXION: dark/coloured
HAIR: dark
EYES: brown/black
NOTES: British govt. paid his passage, he may have been a military man. Most of the men who accompanied him on the voyage to the U.S. had occupations that could have been useful in the military. Ernest wasn’t planning on returning back to Bequia, he intended on staying in the States permanently. He had previously been in the States in May 1918.

Ernest F. KYDD’s information on the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) states that he was born 26 October 1892 and died 16 September 1995 in Waterford, New London County, Connecticut, USA. His Social Security card had been obtained in Connecticut.
