TRANSCRIPTION of an ORIGINAL DOCUMENT,
now in the PUBLIC RECORD OFFICE, LONDON.

Note that the original document is now too frail to permit photocopying, and is very difficult to read. The third page of this Indenture is missing, however, the intention that the plantation was to be shared by both William LINDOW & George KEARTON is made quite clear by the two surviving pages herewith transcribed.

THIS INDENTURE made on the 23rd Day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy in the tenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the grace of God between William LINDOW of the Island of St. Vincent, Esq., on the one part and George KEARTON of the same Island, Esq., on the other part WHEREAS the said William LINDOW by virtue of a certain grant of letters patent under the great seal of the Southern Caribbee Islands bearing date the 2nd day of March One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Seven became seized and possessed of and in all that certain plantation lot or parcel situate, lying and being in the Parish of St. Patrick formerly called Barrewally in the said Island of St. Vincent containing 123 acres of land formerly possessed by MASON, LaFARQUE and CANTALUPE, bounding North on the Wallilebeau River and land belonging GUMS and MITTER (MILLERD?), N/East on land belonging to Mr. BUGROES, impractable woodland and land belonging to MORGAN and LOLLEY (LAWLEY?), Easterly on impractable land West and N/West on land reserved for Publick use next the sea being three chains in breadth from high water mark in the same manner and form as is represented in and by certain diagrams annexed to the said Grant of Letters Patent as by the said Grant of Letters Patent and diagram hereunto annexed now on record in the Secretary’s Office of the said Island of St. Vincent may more fully appear AND WHEREAS the said William LINDOW in and by his certain Indentures of Lease and Release bearing date the 14th and 15th day of July respectively in the year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Five and for the consideration therein mentioned grant, bargain, sell, assign, lease and confirm unto the said George KEARTON and to his heirs and assigns all that full undivided half of and in the said plantation lot or parcel of land herein before described and also one full undivided half part of land and in all the houses, outhouses, edifices, sugarworks, buildings, mills, stills, coppers, negroes, also all ways, paths, passages, easements, profits, commodityes, libertyes, priviledges (sic), advantages, hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining or otherwise used or enjoy or accepted, repute, deemed, taken or known as part or parcel thereof or to be freehold or the nature of freehold and to goe with as part of the inheritance of the said plantation, lot or parcel of land according to the laws, usage, custom of the said Island of St. Vincent and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents issues and profits of the said premises herein before mentioned and all the estate, right, little interest, use, trust, property, claim and demand whatsoever both of law and equity of him the said William LINDOW of, in and to the premises and every part thereof to have and to hold the said undivided half part of the said parcel of land and all singular other parts with their and every of their appurtances unto the said George KEARTON his heirs and assigns forever Now THEREFORE THIS INDENTURE WITNESS the said William LINDOW for in consideration of a yearly rent and conveyance hereinafter reserved and contained which on the part of the said George KEARTON, his executors, administrators and assigns are and ought to be paid and performed HAVE demised, granted and by these letters and by these presents doth devise, grant, and give unto the said George KEARTON all that one undivided moiety or half part of him the said William LINDOW of and in the said plantation, lot or parcel of land situate, lying and being in that part of the Parish of St. Patrick formerly called Barrewally in the said Island of St. Vincent containing 123 acres of land.
