Will of Frances James COX
- Captain in the Royal York Rangers
of Island of Saint Vincent, West Indies

I hereby revoke the foregoing and substitute the following as my last Will and Testament at my decease I bequeath to Mary a free
woman of colour commonly called Mary COX and her four children Francis Maxwell COX , John COX , Margaret COX , and George COX all my Negro Slaves as per Certified Registry annexed I also give to them all sums of money due to me of whatsoever denomination together with my money in the hands of which Messrs. Thomas Coutts & Co. Bankers, Strand, London have the management all other efforts, dues @r not herein particularised I give to Tittoon, a free Girl of Colour sister to the before mentioned Mary COX.
I hereby appoint and nominate Thomas FENTIMAN Esquire my true and only Executor of this my last Will and Testament. In virtue whereof I have hereonto affixed my hand and seal this thirtieth day of March 1822.

By His Excellency Rear Admiral Sir Charles BRISBANE K C B Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over the Island of Saint Vincent, Bequia, and such other the Islands commonly called the Grenadines as lie to the Northward of the Island of Carriacou in America, Chancellor Ordinary and Vice Admiral of the same @r @r @r Whereas Mary COX of the Island of Saint Lucia but at present of this Island by her humble petition hath prayed me to grant unto her Letters of Administration on all and every the Estate of Francis James COX late Captain in the Royal York Rangers deceased with the Exemplification of his will annexed which petition for the reasons therein set forth was by me accordingly granted I do therefore by these presents give and grant unto the said Mary COX full power and authority to ask and demand receive and take into her hands custody and possession and to administer on all the Goods Chattels Debts Dues accounts and all other the Personal Estate of the said deceased and the same well and faithfully to dispose of in a due course of administration and to do and perform all such other things as an administratrix ought to do and thereof to be accountable whensoever she shall be thereunto loyally required having given security in the Registers Office in Ordinary for her so doing.

On the 20th April 1827 admon (with the will annexed) of the Goods Chattels & Credits of Francis James COX late of the Island of Saint Vincent in the West Indies & a Captain on half pay in the Royal York Rangers dec’d was granted to Mary COX Spr a Legatee named in the said Will being first sworn by Comon(?) duly to Admr Thomas FENTIMAN the sole Executor survived the said
Deceased but is since dead without having proved the said Will and Tittoon Spr the Residuary Legetee named in the said will having duly renounced the Letters of Admon (with the said will annexed) of Goods of the said Deceased.
Note: Francis J. COX was born in St. Vincent around 1785, he was the son of Herbert Palmer COX & Jane ALEXANDER.
