hi again,
i'm sorry i've taken so long to get back to you. between the holidays, some family illnesses and most recently my co-worker Myrna had surgery. anyway i hope you are sitting down. you and myrna are definitely related. henry hadman melville is definitely in her family. I showed her the wedding pic and she immediately said that's Dorothy my cousin. Dorothy lives in our town and hopefully i'll meet her soon. we have been trying to arrange this for many months. Henry actually resembles my uncle John Alexander Melville and the bride resembles my mom. overall it's a very handsome family. Here's another shocker, also thomas changed his name to melvillestein.

In your research, have you run across information on a tory named Steven Heard, an interim provisional Governor of Georgia during the revolution who was imprisoned in Augusta, Ga. during the Revolutionary War. He was able to escape before hanging and there are interesting stories in that regard. He was a Governor on horseback due to the loss of any permanent capital. I am looking for British Military books or journals that might confirm those stories. He was very involved in the Hornet's Nest and I feel sure came in contact with Thomas Browne and his forces. He fought alongside Elijah Clarke in the battle of Kettle Creek and in other areas. Isn't history more interesting than fiction? Any info you might have about our ancestor would be appreciated. Thank you for your consideration. Linda Heard.

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is currently researching the life and career of a major benefactor of education in Wales of the nineteenth century, the London-born Welshman Thomas Phillips (1760-1851). Phillips owned the Camden Park estate on St Vincent from at least the early 1820s to his death in 1851. Very little is known of Phillips’ life and career. Any information about Phillips and trhe estate would be very gratefully recieved

My great great great grandfather, who was originally from Peebles, Scotland, lived on SVG in 1846. I have a letter he wrote to his wife dated 13th March 1846. At the top of the letter, he wrote the place in which he was living called Havihall Estate. The letter talks about his daily life and he mentions pigs and chickens and eggs, so it seems like it might have been a farm??? Does anyone have any idea how I might find out more about Havihall Estate? Would love to know what brought my great great great grandfather to SVG, besides the awesome weather!

seeking information about Alexander and Grigor Grant, planters. Alexander, his wife Mary Leith nee Cameron and newborn daughter Caroline Jemima Cameron Grant (birth registered Glasgow 28 Sep 1856) travelled to St Vincent shortly after baby's birth possibly via Canada. Mary, died en route. Shortly afterwards Alexander also died and his brother Grigor had charge of the baby for a while. He then arranged for a nurse to accompany the baby back to Scotland. She was brought up in Morayshire and Banffshire (have information about this). Looking for information on Alexander and Grigor, eg their deaths, where they worked, deaths at sea registrations - generally any information relating to them or plantations etc.

My grandmother Muriel Beatrice Finley was born here in the 1880's. Her father was named Kelly--an Irish merchant. My grandmother married Adams and emigrated to Brooklyn, NY in the 1920's. My name is William Caldwell the son of Emily, Muriel's eldest child. All are deceased. But I am told there are Finley relatives--names unknown--on the island and shops bearing the name, Kelly, my great-great(?) grandfather.

I have been searching for information on my grandfather James Lang George. I know that he left St Vincent Island and came to the United States on a whaling ship with his best friend Johnny Simmons. He later sent for his wife Helena DeWeer from St Statius or St. Kitts. I have traveled to St Vincent and was unable to find any information. I was told that the last member of the George family died 2 months before my arrival. I have searched on this site and cannot find anything about my grandfather or possible relatives, Any suggestions?
Many thanks for your help.
