i see that many of the children’s fathers were in the military. they were noted as free coloured. how did this come about in st lucia? were their parents rewarded for something or were they freed by their masters?

I have information on an ancestor, Alexander MacKenzie, son of William MacKenzie (ref. Tourama Estate) that he (Alexander) was born in Saint Vincent in 1799 – and that is ALL the info I have on this family – there is no mother’s name. Wm. MacKenzie apparently did something for the Tourama Estate – I haven’t any idea how many churches are on the island, so sending for records of birth/baptism is impossible at the moment. Both my Grandparents and Father were born in St. Vincent. My Grandfather was George Allen born abt.1894 in Richmond and my Grandmother was Florence Allen born abt. 1900 in Layou. My Father was Ruben Hector Allen born 12/20/1920. I want to know more of my roots. If anyone knows of the Allen/Allan family please email me at kenicusallen@msn.com

liddibeth, if your Aunt’s names are Pauline and Resslie (please forgive the spelling), then we are 3/4 cousins, I’m hoping to get a better understanding of the make up of the family this weekend. If you have any addition info then I would appreciate it. My Grandfather was Joseph Conway deFreitas, and my Grandmother was Alinda deFreitas, and they had 11 children, my mum being the youngest – Clare deFreitas. Many off the boys had nicknames, which they were known by.

I never knew that the Defreitas family was connected to the Coreas. My father is John from Parkhill. Two of our aunts lived opposite the police station in Colonairie. They were a large family. I believe that my father is the only one who moved to Kingstown to live.

I am looking for any information on the
De Freitas family. I donâ€™t know much about them except they may be from the north part of the island. My gt-grandmotherâ€™s name was Emily (*Miss Joe*) De Freitas and she moved to Kingstown probably around the turn of the century. My gt-grandfather was George Corea (do not know where he grew up), also lived in Kingstown where he owned a dry-goods store (Corea & Co.). Any info would be great.
